With Love From Afghanistan

17 Jun

I have a very dear friend.

This probably isn’t his most flattering picture… or mine for that matter.

His name is David, he is a U.S Marine, and has been stationed in Afghanistan for almost a year now. Thankfully he is expected to be home at the end of the summer! But that is always up in the air.

All of his friends back in the States (including me!) have been writing to him, to try and help him feel loved, because he really is. Although his situation can be pretty scary sometimes, it seems like he is seeing some really interesting places. In my letters, I feel like I am trying to make his deployment sound more like world traveling with questions like “How’s the food?” and “Did you meet a nice girl?!”

Well anyway, the other day I received a package all the way from Afghanistan…

It was full of beautiful scarves!

David identifies me as an “artsy” girl and I guess to a marine “artsy” equates to “must wear scarves”. He knows me so well!

Opening this package, alone in my kitchen, at 2 AM caused the biggest smile my face has seen in a long time.

I sincerely can not wait for him to come home.

To Afghanistan:

With love,

Philadelphia
